I workedat Target. I can immediately tell there are issues and limitations to this fantastic robot in regards being able to grab/lift and move payloads as fast as a regular loader/unloader team. The sheer variety of products, shapes, weights, and and the way they are stacked on a truck would absolutely fuck with how viable these would be. Especially if there are messes, PIPOS, cramped quarters, etc. My guess is that a team of loaders would accompany the robot or vice versa. Smaller shops and certain big-box stores would still need people for a while.

I mean it all looks cool, effective and professional, but let's not forget that those were empty cardboard boxes with no weight in them. So first the cardboard box has to be able to hold the weight at the bottom without any support from below. Well, good luck with that. Actually picking up boxes various weight and size and shape WHILE supporting the bottom is a different thing. Understanding what's in it so you can support it properly is a different thing.

The whole system works only because the packeging is virtually weightless and dirt cheap.
Handling is not a mindless task. And those are not random boxes loaded into random containers. This system as it is only useful in very narrow settings. This demonstration is all programmed beforehand, boxes being weightless and placed to the right spot so the robot 'finds it'. This is not REACTING to real life challenges. Ever seen a container after a stormy sea crossing? Everything is shifted and moved and dameged? This is a 'perfect world' scenario, not areal one.

We need these machines to replace all the workers that steal and destroy packages . Next step, autonomous delivery system so that my packages aren’t destroyed cause the delivery man keep THROWING packages . CANT WAIT
